1854 Gold $1 Dollar Liberty Head Octagonal, Low Rarity-5.

  • Redbook Type: Broad Liberty Head / Large Eagle.

  • Made by Frontier-Deviercy.

Obverse: Large head; 13 stars, 1st star to left of tip of bust; tip of diadem points just behind the 5th star. Same as BG-501, BG-502 and BG-503. Repolished to remove clash marks.

Reverse: CALIFORNIA GOLD 1854 above and * ONE DOL. * below, around the border.   Eagle with a shield and scroll, Same eagle device as BG-502 and BG-503. Right end of scroll points to * above DOL.

CCJ 9; EML 16; Burnie 24; Lee 7C; D 417A.

The obverse has been repolished to remove clash marks. Still lightly rusted.

  1. Die State-1: Perfect reverse.
  2. Die State-2: A crack from rim through left star into field, various stages of crack.
  3. Die State-3: Crack extends to scroll.
