Gold specialist David Akers writes, "The 1924 is the most common issue of the Saint-Gaudens series. In fact, it is by far the most common issue of the four 20th century gold series....the typical 1924 is very sharply struck and fully frosty with very good to excellent luster. The color is usually a light to medium orange gold..." PCGS has graded 52,714 of this issue in MS65, with 11,982 finer. Plus it has the exclusive PCGS Gold Foil label.

Theodore Roosevelt - Quotes, Children & Presidency - BiographyAugustus Saint-Gaudens - Wikipedia

President Theodore Roosevelt (left) and sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens (right) collaborated on the new version of the double eagle that debuted in 1907.

Numismatic scholar and art critic Cornelius Vermeule writes, "The double eagle is perhaps the most majestic coin ever to bear our national imprint." Discussing both Saint-Gaudens' $10 eagle along with his $20 double eagle, Vermeule writes, "Both coins seems as modern a century after they were conceived as any issues, American or otherwise, produced in the past generation, and compared with what has been tolerated heretofore in the United States, both burst as artistic skyrockets in the horizons of our academic creativity."
