Out of an original mintage of 2,456,000, a small amount (313) of this issue have been graded by PCGS. And from among those, only 4 carry the lofty grade of MS66+, with just 3 finer (as of 3/2021). This is a registry coin that the Barber enthusiast would love to have in his or her collection. Plus, it has the CAC designation that attests to its superiority for its grade. Look at the images of this piece. It has booming luster--plus delightful golden toning on both sides that emphasize the devices. This is indeed a rare opportunity to acquire this date in MS66+. There have only been two sightings of it in MS66+ at auctions during the past ten years: once in June of 2019 and the other in December of 2011; both were offered by Heritage Auctions. So-! take advantage of this change to land such a dazzling piece. There's no telling when such a piece will again be presented.

1904-O 25C Barber Quarter PCGS MS66+ (CAC)--$6,750.00

We at AUCM are quite proud to be offering you this spectacular Barber quarter from the historic New Orleans mint. This would be the perfect addition to a type set of Gem-plus U.S. quarters or a type set of Gem-plus Barber coinage. NGC Coin Explorer tells us, "Despite a mintage that should provide for many survivors, the 1904-O quarter is scarce across all grades. There are a fair number of Mint State coins certified, but gems are rare. This is due in part to technical deficiencies that plague this issue, which is often poorly struck." This is definitely an exception to the above, for it has a sharp strike.

The coinage of Charles E. Barber has seen much criticism over the years; however, many sophisticated collectors enjoy the oft maligned designs. Barber has a champion in numismatic scholar and art critic Cornelius Vermeule, who writes that, "...Liberty's cap, incised diadem, and wreath of laurel were designed to echo all the depth and volume of her Olympian countenance. The classical substances are offset, almost literally, by the sharply rectangular dentils of the raised rim and the strength of 13 six-pointed stars. On the [reverse] ... an equal constellation of stars ... is clustered above the eagle's shaggy, craggy profile. On both sides the simple dignity of motto, legend, and denomination binds the pictorialism into a cohesive tondo. The wealth of irregular surfaces and sharp angles is an almost electrifying aesthetic experience. ... specimens [are] a pleasure to contemplate. The sculptor was unsurpassed in the mechanics of creating a durable design of monumental validity."
