There has been 1 piece of this VAM variety graded MS64 in the NGC Green Label holder.

The below is from the VAMWorld 2.0 website.

Discovered by George Mallis, July 1964. Revised 2012.

This coin is a Top 100 Morgan VAM

3 (revised) III2 4 · C3c (Doubled Profile, CC/CC Top, Spitting Eagle) ( ? ) I-3 R-4

Obverse III2 4– Slightly doubled profile of Liberty head from nose down to jaw.

Reverse C3c - V CC mint mark tilted left. Left C strongly doubled at top outside and lower left inside. Right C slightly doubled at top outside. Later die states show only left C doubled and a die gouge shows below eagle’s beak as spitting eagle. Diagonal die gouges at outside of eagle's left leg and between bottom and middle arrow shafts. Fine pitting and isolated polishing lines below both eagle's wings.

Comments:

  1. Since VAM numbers are assigned by die classification, and not just by die pairing, multiple die pairings may exist.
  2. The 1891-CC VAM-3 coin has a small die gouge in front of the Eagle's Mouth giving this variety the nickname "spitting eagle."
  3. Also comes with gouged neck and normal date.
