Here is a unique opportunity to purchase an extremely rare Carson City $10. Most Carson City specialists and ten dollar gold collectors will have to settle for an MS61 or at best possibly an MS62 example of the 1890-CC eagle. Finer representatives—such as this one offered by AUCM--are major condition rarities.

Writes NGC Coin Explorer, “The Carson City Mint only struck 17,500 gold eagles in 1890. This low mintage has made this date one of the hardest CC $10 eagles to locate. Most examples show heavy bag marks and abrasion. This is clearly evident in the NGC census, which shows the most common uncirculated grade as a mere MS61. MS63 is the highest grade NGC has given an 1890-CC gold eagle thus far.” However, this MS63 example is stunning! It is tied for Finest Known at NGC, along with 6 other examples. There is only one finer at PCGS in MS64. Collectors Universe gives this issue a price of $32,500.00 in MS63.
