1858 $20 Liberty Head Double Eagle PCGS AU58 (CAC)
CAC endorsed. This is a premium quality example through and through, the surfaces attractively original with plenty of mint luster remaining. Sharply struck, as well, and conditionally scarce for this more elusive Philadelphia Mint double eagle from the 1850s. From a limited mintage of 211,714 pieces. We note a few examples with the Fairmont Collection provenance selling for less. A quick exmaination of the surface quality of these coins shows the typical "smudge" or ashen surfaces that develop over years of storage in Europe. These coins do trade at a substantial discount to more collectible specimens such as this one.
