This is a precious, greatly desired coin. We don't know how many of them were produced in 1850, but we do know that less than 100 of them have survived to this day. And of those, only 16 carry the grade of PCGS XF45 (as of 5/2021). This is a rare opportunity for the Territorial Gold enthusiast to purchase this great coin. It is not every day that this issue is offered for sale. It's difficult to say when another will be offered. The discriminating numismatist with the available resources should take a close look at this listing. Well-worth putting away and storing for future activity.

1850 $5 Mormon Gold Half Eagle PCGS XF45 $34,500.

We at AUCM are pleased to offer you a truly rare relic of the Western frontier: an 1850 $5 Mormon gold piece graded PCGS XF45. Such coins are quite rare and particularly desired by Territorial Gold specialists. This specimen would be the perfect addition to a collection of circulated Territorial Gold from the romantic days of the Wild West. Or it would be a great single "stand-alone" piece to be the highlight of a proud numismatist's collection.

The 1850 $5 Mormon gold piece has a different design from the 1849 issue, for it has a new obverse with an all-seeing eye with 9 stars encompassing it,  and a freshly designed miter cap. Fewer of the 1850 $5 half eagles were produced than the 1849 issue, and they are more scarce today in all grades. In fact, it has been estimated that less than 100 of the 1850 issue have survived into the 21st century. The minters alloyed the 1850 coins with silver to raise their value relative to the 1849 issue. However, this effort was a failure, for most of these underweight coins were melted by assayers in the 1850s. Those that survive are great rarities among Territorial Gold. This is an original coin that has not been tampered with, and therefore very rare. All 1850 pieces are greater rarities than the 1849 coins.
