1848 1/2C Braided Hair Half Cent Restrike PCGS PR65BN

First Restrike. B-2. Rarity-5. Small Berries. Only a little over 30 of these First Restrike 1848 half cents are thought to exist today. Bold blue steel patina on both sides with soft greenish olive accents on the high points and around the rims. The fields glitter with slightly subdued reflectivity while the devices are sharp and gently satiny. A dull bump on Liberty's neck and a small obverse rim abrasion right of Star 12 would be useful identifiers of this piece in the future. Well struck as expected, and aesthetically quite pleasing.

  • Earlier from Superior's sale of November 1973, lot 13;
