Strike 5/5; Surfaces 4/5. Struck between AD 383 and 388 at the mint of Mediolanum, this silver Denarius of Magnus Maximus displays lovely iridescent cabinet toning. The obverse features the inscription D N MAG MAXIMVS P F AVG around the pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Magnus Maximus facing right. The reverse features VIRTVS ROMANORVM surrounding Roma enthroned facing, head turned to left, holding a globe and a spear, MDPS in exergue, 1.59g, 6h (RIC 19a; C 20). Various aspects of this coin show full mint state qualities.
